Journey across Scotland and Northern England by way of sacred pilgrimage routes, as well as some walking along The Cuthbert Way. These are the same walks which St. Cuthbert and other monastics took in their daily lives in the early days when Christianity was new to this country.
We begin in Edinburgh and continue to the Scottish Borders.We will explore the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, medieval Durham, Jarrow, and York, with visits to beautiful Gothic Cathedrals, historic Abbeys, Roman, and Viking Ruins, and majestic Castles. These sites will inspire us to walk in the way of disciples throughout history who have followed Jesus in establishing communities of mission, compassion, and education that have shaped Western civilization.

Tartans, Castles and Casks: A Cultural Taste of Scotland Pre-tour: Experience the Edinburgh Tattoo August 4-6, 2017 August 6 - 17, 2017 Filled
This private journey (which is limited to 24 participants) begins in Edinburgh, and travels up the west coast of this incredibly scenic country to Culloden Moor and the wonderful Culloden House Hotel, the house Bonnie Prince Charlie used as his battle headquarters during the disastrous Battle of Culloden! We will then leave for Fort William and join the world famous steam train ‘The Jacobite’ to ride to Mallaig, where we catch the ferry to Isle of Skye.
After a few days exploring that island (and communing with not a few sheep!), we go on to Oban and the Island of Mull where we will stay in a marvelous hotel overlooking Tobermory Bay! We cross to the holy island of Iona where we have a full day in order that we can immerse ourselves in the peace and tranquility of this holy island. After our stay on Mull, we will wind our way south to Glasgow to the Blythewood Hotel, centrally located in the center of Glasgow with easy access to museums, shops and transport.
We have arranged some wonderful private visits for our group - Hopetoun House, considered one of Scotland’s “finest Stately Homes” and the historic Ardgowan House, where we will have a tour led by the owner, whose family has lived here for over 800 years. We will visit Winton House and Drummond Castle (how many of you remember the movie Rob Roy? It was the gardens at Drummond that are featured in this film.) Many of the houses we will visit are either not opened to the public or are opened on a very limited basis. We will see some amazing art collections, furniture and architectural masterpieces not usually seen by the general public.
